A compact, portable digital radio, One Mini Series 2 offers a blend of quality, style and affordability that’s hard to beat. Measuring just 13 cm wide by 13.5 cm high, it’s an ideal travelling companion, providing hours of portable listening when fitted with an optional rechargeable ChargePAK. Decide at this point things are going to be a lot simpler if I just take the radio upstairs to where the computer is (I’m going to have to connect it to USB anyway). But first, take a photo of the display, showing the hardware identifier. I'm an IT systems manager for a large organisation. Therefore I like to think I'm pretty savvy when it comes to technology.
The whole process took me about 20 minutes (including trying to get the Mi working). I would have thought the average consumer simply won't bother and if they have a go, could easily give up.Add in the low price, reasonably-priced optional battery and good sound quality and the One Mini appears quite the bargain. If you can stomach the extra cash, the Evoke 1S offers a more attractive design and warmer sound, but we do think this second series model represents a significant upgrade over the original 2008 One Mini. Later: reception has improved and I can confirm the DAB+ upgrade has worked. I’m grateful the radio I bought almost ten years ago will continue to work. Yes, stops at 50% for me as well. I am trying it under various compatibility modes to see if that's the problem (running Win 10 at the moment).

Did you manage to read the serial number ok to get the upgrade? Mine is faded with only half the numbers readable.Correctly guess how to enter it (turning the dial to select the number and A-F – obvious – then pressing the button in to advance to the next one – perhaps not quite so obvious to all). In hindsight, this was perhaps the most enjoyable stage of the process, as it felt a bit like opening a safe. Notice letters are lower case. Enter again in uppercase in case of sloppy programming. Still rejected. Just about but I have an Access file with an inventory of my property, including serial numbers, I tried reading the first one with my bar code reader but the barcode did not show all the digits when decoded.

Bear all this in mind (including the likelihood of users of all abilities making mistakes) when contemplating marketing material for digital switchover. Try and tune into a DAB+ station. Opt for Gold. Appears in the station listing twice, once as Gold on local mux I know I definitely can’t get in this room, and as Gold UK on D1 in DAB+ (40k), which is what I need to test. This maturing of the Mini range is a great, if subtle, success. Its body is gloriously smooth to the touch and no longer feels – or looks – particularly cheap. It’s still not going to challenge the Evoke series on style, but if that’s a big turn-off that’s something you can tell just from a picture or two.
