Nikon Coolpix P520 Camera - Black (18.1MP, 42xZoom, 24mm Wide Lens) 3.2 inch LCD
About this deal
I should also point out that both the Sony H400 and Canon SX520 HS have fixed 3 inch screens with 460k dot resolution. The COOLPIX P530’s screen is a higher resolution 921k dot panel which produces a more detailed stable image. It also has a wider angle of view than either of the other two models. The view angle on the Sony H400 isn’t great either horizontally or vertically, the SX520 HS has a wide horizontal angle of view, but only the COOLPIX P520 screen remains visible at acute horizontal and vertical angles of view, so it’s great for overhead shots though, of course not as versatile as an articulated screen.. The Nikon Coolpix P520 allows you to get as close as 1cm to your subject, in this case a Compact Flash card. The Nikon Coolpix P520 has four different Picture Controls, which can be individually tweaked (sharpening, contrast and saturation) to suit your taste.

The COOLPIX P520’s 42x optical zoom has a 35mm equivalent range of 24-1000mm and a maximum aperture of f3-5.9. As I mentioned in the introduction, this is the same lens as on its predecessor, the COOLPIX P510 which was unmatched on its release in early 2012, and although there are now longer super-zooms out there it remains an impressively long reach with which few models, present company excepted, can compete. Like the PowerShot SX50 HS and Lumix FZ70 / FZ72, the COOLPIX P520’s lens is stabilised. Nikon calls its stabilisation Vibration Reduction and it’s activated from the Setup menu. There are two options, Normal and Off as well as an Active mode that irons out excessive wobbling, examples of the kinds of conditions it might be useful in, according to the manual, are ‘when shooting from a car or under poor foothold conditions’. The PowerShot SX50 HS has a similarly side-hinged articulating screen. At 2.8 inches and with 460k dots, it’s slightly smaller and less detailed than the COOLPIX P520’s and, although the additional resolution isn’t all that noticeable, the 0.4 of an inch makes a much bigger difference than you might imagine. The COOLPIX P520’s screen provides a nice big, bright, detailed image that I found was much better both for composing and reviewing shots than either the PowerShot SX50 HS or the Lumix FZ70 / FZ72.x 3672]; 8M [3264 x 2448]; 4M [2272 x 1704]; 2M [1600 x 1200]; VGA [640 x 480]; 16:9 13M [4864 x 2736]; 16:9 2M [1920 x 1080]; 3:2 [4896 x 3264]; 1:1 [3672 x 3672]

The Nikon Coolpix P520 boasts the most powerful lens in Coolpix camera yet, incorporating a 42x optical zoom lens which provides an effective focal range of 24-1000mm. How does the rest of the camera weigh up? Find out in our full Nikon Coolpix P520 review
With a powerful 42x optical zoom, the Coolpix P520 allows for capturing subjects up close and from a distance. Additionally, a 2x digital zoom further enhances the camera's zoom capabilities, providing even greater reach. Its lens offers a minimum focal length of 24 millimeters (35mm film equivalent) and a maximum focal length of 1000 millimeters, allowing for versatile shooting options. A flap on the right of the P530’s body provides access to the combined USB / A/V out port and a mini HDMI port. The combined battery and card compartment is in the base of the grip. Like the H400, the COOLPIX P530 battery is charged in the camera using either the supplied USB charger or you can plug it into a laptop or other suitable charger using a standard USB cable. All in all, it’s much more convenient than having to carry around a proprietary charger.
