While brushing your daughter’s hair, for example, think about how the hair feels, think about the colour of the hair, the way the hair falls or how the curls bounce.
Now gently open your eyes and move your body. As you reengage with the activities of your day, see if you can carry the awareness that you have cultivated with you. Important to note! Being a Mindful Parent is not about being a Perfect Parent! You don't have to have any specific training or experience, but you do need motivation to practice. So in mindfulness it's this ability to start recognising our own patterns of thinking that may not be that helpful for us. Once we start recognising those unhelpful patterns then we can start doing something about it, we can start having a choice. It's sort of reducing our reactivity and increasing our ability to respond more wisely.”
There are many apps available to assist you in becoming more mindful. Most mindfulness techniques are a form of meditation.
