Divergent is one of the latest Young Adult adaptations to hit theaters. These films usually fall under one of two sub-genres: Dystopian Future and Fantasy Romance. (There are also a growing number of Dying Girl movies, like The Fault in Our Stars and If I Stay.) This film is part of the Dystopian Future genre and will inevitably be compared to Hunger Games. Get started Close To sum it all up, it is one of my all-time FAVORITES! The story is intriguing and well thought out, the violence is fairly bloody but not overly gory, swearing and sexy stuff are kept to a minimum, and the alcoholic character sobers as the movie goes on. There are great messages and lessons we can learn from this movie. I think it is appropriate for nearly all teens, but it's an iffy choice for anyone under 13 years old.

We learn about Katniss’ life in the impoverished area of her district, the Seam, and her family as she makes her journey from her house to the Meadow and, eventually, to the woods, where people from the district are forbidden to go. Families can talk about how the "last man standing" premise of The Hunger Games compares to reality TV shows. Which series pit people against each other? The Hunger Games begins in District 12 on the day of the reaping. The story’s 16-year-old narrator, Katniss Everdeen, goes off to meet her buddy Gale so they may go hunting and collecting before the reaping that afternoon.
