About this deal
Overall the a7 IV looks to be a very capable camera: one with much-enhanced video and more sophisticated autofocus. For newcomers, the increased price, an array of credible rivals and the high bar set by the a7 III means it's going to have its work cut out if it's to stand out in the way earlier a7 models did. However, owners of the first two a7 models, and even some a7R series users, are likely to be stunned by how far the series has come in the past few years. Capable of 15-stops of dynamic range and improved color reproduction, my first impression of the files coming out of the camera were very positive. The combination of its newly-developed 33-megapixel Exmor R sensor and BIONZ XR image processor produces high-quality, lifelike photos with a healthy amount of resolution.

Up to 10 fps in continuous “Hi+” mode and up to 8 fps in continuous “Hi” mode. Maximum continuous shooting speed is reduced when shooting lossless or uncompressed RAW / RAW+JPEG images. Maximum fps will depend on camera settings. Sony test conditions. Muskokaphotog - "These cameras also focus at the set aperture, not maximum, so auto focus accuracy declines immensely as you stop down" Very true ! I have 2 Sony A7 III bodies and I wanted to upgrade them next year but I will buy the A7 III body again to replace my 2 heavily used bodies as I can't justify spending so much more for the A7 IV for minimal gains.Reliability I think is the key word when it comes to describing the Alpha 7 IV. Its ability to hold a subject in AF-C might be one of the best experiences I’ve had with a Sony camera. Also, neither Fro nor Tony N have exactly been Nikon fans for the last few years, but they praise the Z9 and you discount that too. JPM29, That doesn't help answer the original question. A nicer screen would still be nicer, even if not *strictly* necessary. But there's plenty of things you could point to on a high end camera that aren't strictly necessary, but have been included because some customers want.

Perhaps the most spectacular advance, however, is the least obvious. The A7 III brought 10fps continuous shooting and an above-average buffer capacity for a general-purpose camera – but the A7 IV’s buffer capacity is just extraordinary. The combination of the new sensor, BIONZ XR processor and CFexpress Type A storage, give the A7 IV an essentially unlimited buffer capacity. It does have a limit of 828 consecutive uncompressed raw+JPEG files (828!) – but it's effectively unlimited with a CFexpress Type A card. Effectively, this camera can keep going until the card fills up, the battery runs out or everyone else has gone home… And the point is - this products are not essential, compared to the smartphones or petrol for example!
But making same products ( just new version ), rising the prices and blame the market is recipe for disaster, and we see it.

output. Compatibility is not guaranteed with all USB PD devices. The internal battery will not be charged while camera power is ON and the camera is in use. Perhaps if you had read my comment more carefully and less emotionally, you would have noticed that I did not call out Sony specifically. I was careful to direct my inquiry toward "pro-level cameras costing thousands of dollars" because it is *not* just a Sony thing. Muskokaphotog - "Nothing ever looks sharp and accurate manual focus is a joke, even with the peaking. The margin of error in peaking is way too high."
So perhaps it comes down to this: how much of the A7 IV’s extra capabilities do you need, and is it worth the big jump in price to get them? How we test cameras Wait, so resolution is related to screen brightness? I had no idea! But that's a useful piece of information if true, and it would help explain the screen situation. A fully articulating screen can be useful for waist-level shooting, vlogging or selfies. It also allows you to monitor the camera if you're using its streaming mode.
