Paul Costigan was born in Manchester in 1961 and began boxing at the Boarshaw Amateur boxing club as a 14 year old. Trained by ex professional boxer Geoff Shaw Paul developed a fearsome reputation as a skillful box fighter with very heavy hands. He could hit like a horses kick and many of his contests didn’t reach the end of the 1st round.
By the time he was 16 he struggled to get fights and had to travel the length and breadth of the country and Europe to get fights boxing men who had much more experience than himself.
Following more than 70 fights as an amateur he turned professional young as a 19 year old but became disillusioned with the sport due to poor management. Paul had only a handful of professional fights and never reached his enormous potential, a great Manchester talent wasted.
We will never forget Paul’s long winning knock out run during 1979, he was a fearsome puncher.
Paul Now lives in Devon and has three Children.
