Jackie Braddock

Jackie Braddock

Jackie Braddock was a very capable boxer in the 1950’s. His family name was Williamson and he was the older brother of British lightweight champion Frank Johnson.

Although he was only 17 years old, Jack won the ABA lightweight title on June 30th 1945 beating favourite Eddie Lewis from Wales.

In more than 400 amateur contests Jack lost only a handful of contests and also won the A.T.C. title in the same year he won his ABA title but up at Welterweight!

Jackie was from Chorlton but settled in Gorton where he worked as a market porter whilst boxing amateur in Moss Side.

Jackie later became president of the Manchester ex boxers Association until he passed away aged 70 years old.
